4-day Practical Ultrasound Course + sightseeing!

Program:

June 10 is Practical Abdominal US. By the end of this 100% practical day, you will have the skills to find all abdominal organs (GI, pancreas, adrenals, kidneys, liver, spleen, bladder and main lymph nodes). Straight away, you can start doing scans in your clinic, even if you don't have prior experience. Provide better care for your patients and have an immediate new source of income!

June 11-13 is Practical Advanced US, if you want to develop more advanced skills or if you already have experience. There will be lectures to understand advanced concepts, but we will focus greatly on practicals - advanced US of the GI tract, pancreas, adrenals, vessels (find that portosystemic shunt!), thoracic and abdominal POCUS, emergency echocardiography, fine-needle aspirates and trucut biopsies! What you invest will get back to you in three weeks!

A ticket can be shared by 2 colleagues, i.e. one vet attends the first day, the other attends the advanced days.

9.30-13.45 course, 13.45-15 vegan lunch, 15-18.15 course, >18.15 we will show you Porto & have dinner together.

One afternoon, we will finish early and go to the beach together :)

Cost:

Day 1 only: £690

Full 4-day course: £1950 if you register with a friend* (cost per person) or attended an OHANA course previously. For others, it's £2100.

What is included in the ticket?

- 25h of practical course! It will be RACE-approved for North Americans

- CE/CPD certificate

- coffee breaks

What is NOT included in the ticket?

- transport (there are many low cost flights)

- meals (from £8 lunch, from £12 dinner)

- airBnB (from only £40 per person, Porto is very trendy but still cheap!)

Do you need to organise anything?

Only your flights. This trip is stress-free for you, I've already organised airbnb, meals and sightseeing. Each person covers their own expenses. We always stay together in OHANA courses! When you buy a ticket, I'll email you the options to stay together in the same building, in shared rooms (from only ~£45/night per person), private rooms, and private flats (you can bring your family and friends), all with access to a kitchen.

How many people per dog? Are the dogs sedated?

We limit the course to ~15 people. The dogs are calm and lightly sedated, they are of different sizes, you will rotate. Other courses have only one educator, too many people per dog, and too much theory! We aim to be the best, so we'll have 3 educators, only 3 people per dog, and will email you notes in advance so you can focus on practicals!

I'm not a vet, nurse, tech or student, can I join? Can I bring my family or friends?

Yes! Family and friends are always welcome in our courses/missions. Join us for every meal and sightseeing. You pay only a fee to add an extra person to the flat (often <£15/night) and, like all of us, cover your expenses. You do not pay a course fee!

Why are we doing this course?

The organisers and speakers are working pro-bono to generate funds for:

- shelter animals in Porto (Associação Midas)

- animals and children in Africa (with local charity AMA)

There are thousands of dogs starving to death in São Tomé e Príncipe. With rare exceptions, people do not give them food of water. They also suffer horrific acts of cruelty due to lack of education. For example, the locals believe they can beat up animals or throw boiling water at them, because animals don't feel pain and don't have feelings. We want to change that! With the profits from our 2025 courses, we printed nearly 2000 copies of a children's book that teach children to treat animals with kindness and respect. We joined the local charity AMA in delivering the books and interactive presentations in schools. Many of these children had nothing, now they have a book! We also covered the annual salary of a teacher who joined the local charity to visit schools full-time, teaching children to be kind to animals. In 2026, we want to print books for more children, continue to educate children in schools, and fund a mass neuter campaign! If you believe every child deserves a book and every animal deserves kindness, consider donating.

Are the tickets or deposit refundable?

The course and airbnb tickets are not refundable, as we have to pay expenses in advance and these are not refundable to us. But we can resell them for you (there are often people who couldn't get a ticket) or you can transfer it to a friend, so your money won't be lost! Remember all money received will be used to help shelter and street animals.

What are the payment options?

Google pay, debit card or transfer. Bank transfer results in more money for the animals (compared with pay via the website) because there are no fees. Details for bank transfer.
