-
Specialists:
The course will be led by Board Certified Specialists (Diplomates), their names will be announced soon :)

Learning objectives:
Day 1 is introduction to Ultrasound, 100% practical. By the end of this day, you will have the skills to find every abdominal organ and start performing ultrasound scans in your clinic, even if you don't have prior experience. Straight away, you can provide better care for your patients and you have an immediate new source of income! What you invest will get back to you fast!
Days 2 to 4: for those who want to develop more advanced skills or if you already have ultrasound experience. In this advanced part of the course, you will learn advanced ultrasound of the GI tract, pancreas, adrenals, vessels (find that portosystemic shunt!), thoracic POCUS, emergency echocardiography, fine-needle aspirates and trucut biopsies.
A ticket can be shared by 2 colleagues, i.e. one vet attends the first day, the other vet attends the next 3 days.

Why are we doing this course?
The organisers and speakers are working pro-bono to generate funds for:
- shelter animals in Porto (Associação Midas)
- improving the lives of animals in Sao Tomé e Príncipe (Africa), through neuter campaigns and educating children in the schools the local charity AMA and Veterinarians Without Borders. Vets, vet nurses and students can join the neuter campaigns, info will be released in December!
Most dogs and cats in this African country suffer horrific acts of cruelty due to lack of education. For example, the locals believe they can beat up animals or throw boiling water at them, because animals don't feel pain and don't have feelings. We want to change that! With the profits from the 2025 ultrasound course, we printed nearly 2000 copies of a children's book that teach children to treat animals with kindness and respect. We joined the local charity AMA in delivering the books and interactive presentations in schools. Many of these children had nothing, now they have a book :)
We want to print more books and cover the cost of hiring a local teacher to visit the schools full-time, to continue this educational project every day, until the lives of these animals improve! For the first time in this country, a book about animals has entered the national educational program and will be taught in the schools year after year, which is a milestone! For every £200 donated, and additional 15 impoverish children (who have no toys, no books, no shoes...) will be given the book. If you believe every animal deserves kindness and every child deserves a book, you can donate here!

Yes! Family and friends are always welcome in our courses/missions. Join us for every breakfast, lunch, dinner and sightseeing.
-
Flights:
Search for flights on skyscanner, or check all direct flights to Porto here. There are many low-cost flights with Ryanair, Easyjet, Transavia and Vueling.
-
Where can I see footage from previous courses?
Our 2025 ultrasound vet course was INCREDIBLE, click here to view one of the main posts shared on our instagram @ohana.animalcharity.
-
Are the tickets or deposit refundable?
They are not, as we have to pay expenses in advance and these are not refundable to us. But you can transfer the ticket to a friend, so your money won't be lost! And remember that all money received will be used to help shelter and street animals.
-
What are the payment options?
Google pay, debit card or transfer. Bank transfer results in more money for the animals (compared with payment via the website) because there are no fees. We can reserve a ticket when you pay a 50% deposit. See details for bank transfer.
